ATTENDEE LIST SCAMS & HOTEL POACHING ALERTS

Hotel Poaching Alert

Beware of unauthorized companies contacting ConnexFM members! Several members in the U.S. and Canada have reported being approached by “hotel poachers” posing as ConnexFM representatives. These scammers attempt to collect credit card information for fake room reservations for the ConnexFM 2026 National Conference.

Important: Official hotel reservations and conference registration will not open until November 2026. Any offers before that date are fraudulent.

“Room poaching” is when third-party companies impersonate official agents, travel partners, or event organizers to sell bogus hotel rooms.

Common tactics include:

Claiming the official hotel block is “sold out” or offering “early access.”
Sending forms or promotional materials that appear to come from ConnexFM (often misusing our logo).
Charging for fake or cancelled rooms, sometimes adding high cancellation fees.

When victims arrive, they may find their reservations don’t exist or are booked at off-site locations.

Attendee List Scam Alert

Scammers are also targeting conference attendees and exhibitors. These groups claim to sell or provide ConnexFM conference attendee lists - sometimes even before registration opens.

ConnexFM does not sell its attendee or exhibitor lists. We never authorize third parties to distribute or sell any event-related data.

Scammers scrape public websites and social media (e.g., LinkedIn) to collect exhibitor and attendee information. They use phishing emails and fake company names to “verify” addresses and solicit payment for fake lists. These companies are not affiliated with ConnexFM in any way.

Companies will then use this list to solicit payment to share the attendee list to you, usually sent via an email that may look like they represent ConnexFM.

The only legitimate attendee list is distributed free of charge to registered attendees only, sent only from: communications@connexfm.com

Attendee lists are not distributed to registered attendees until we are within 30-days or less of the conference date.

Any other source claiming to have a ConnexFM attendee list is fraudulent, and should be reported. Report suspicious activity using the information provided on the bottom of this page.
